At the Nov. 20 Shawnee City Commission meeting, the Pottawatomie County Museum was approved for the parking lot to be repaved with the original brick pavers that were used on Main Street.

“This is going to enhance the historic downtown and will provide access to the new museum,” Museum Director Ken Landry said.

These bricks were uncovered during the Streetscape project. In addition to over 60 parking spaces, there will also be sidewalks around the museum grounds and will lead up to the entrance of the new museum.

All of the bricks from Main Street were crafted in Kansas.

The official start date has yet to be determined, Landry said.

Total cost of the project will be $530,708.60. Parathon Construction was awarded the project.

The museum will be closed during the parking lot construction project.
