Area firefighters battled two house fires Sunday — one in Shawnee and one in McLoud.

On Sunday afternoon, Shawnee Firefighters responded to a call in the 600 Block of South Broadway.

The call was received around 3:45 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Andy Starkey said.

Upon arrival the the fire department observed heavy smoke and visible flames in the front of the house, Starkey said.

All occupants made it out of the house safely, Starkey said.

The house sustained heavy damage and was unable to be occupied once the fire was extinguished, he said.

Shawnee firefighters left the Broadway scene around 5:45 p.m. Starkey said the cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under investigation at this time.

Earlier in the day, McLoud firefighters responded to mobile home fire on Country Creek Drive.

Reports indicated two vehicles at the scene also caught fire. Reports indicated no one was home and no injuries were reported in that blaze. A rekindle at that home also was reported Monday afternoon.
