Two members of the Shawnee Police Department celebrated their retirement Wednesday afternoon.

Cpl. Khristopher Steadman and Janice Carr were honored for their service to the Shawnee community with an afternoon celebration.

Steadman joined the city of Shawnee as a dispatcher in 1990. He soon became a booking officer and then an animal control officer. He was hired as a police officer in 1991 and assigned to the patrol division where he worked for 23 years. For the last two years, Steadman has been an evidence officer.

During his time as a member of the Shawnee Police Department, Steadman has received many letters of appreciation while performing his duties in addition to receiving the lifesaving award and the medal of valor.

Carr joined the Shawnee Police Department on Feb. 27, 1985 as a jailer. In 2001, she transferred to the records division and in August 2012 was promoted to records division supervisor. Carr received Civilian of the Year award in 2010 and a letter of commendation for 20 years of outstanding and dedicated service to Shawnee.
