The Board of Directors of the Pottawatomie County Historical Society is conducting a campaign for contributions to the building fund so that the new Paul and Ann Milburn Center and required landscaping can be completed this year. Although the Santa Fe Depot is closed while street work is being done, museum staff is there from 10 am to 4 pm on Tuesday through Friday. For information on how you can help with this project, call the museum at 275-8412 or email Ken Landry at, Tom Terry at or Mark Schneiter at . The mailing address is Pottawatomie County Historical Society, P. O. Box 114, Shawnee, OK 74802.

Construction on the additional museum for the Pottawatomie County Historical Society has been halted until additional funds can be raised to cover the cost of the remaining work that must be accomplished before the building can be occupied. The increased cost of materials and the failure of some pledges to be fulfilled have resulted in a shortfall of the amount necessary to complete the work.

The original fund raising plan which began in 2009 established a number of areas of the museum that could be designated in honor of an organization, family or individual. Although most of those designated areas have been funded, two are available including an office or the gift shop for $35,000 each. Both are adjacent to the entrance foyer. In addition landscaping, sidewalks and patios around the museum complex may be named for a contribution of $100,000.

Contributions of any amount are welcome. Donors of gifts of $100 to $4,999 will be listed on a commemorative plaque located in the entrance foyer. Donors of $5,000 or more will be recognized on decorative stars. Over 150 individuals, foundations, and businesses have supported this project. The Historical Society needs many more to fully fund this important facility.
