A car wash fundraiser is scheduled today for 1-year-old Marshal Moreno, son of Shawnee firefighter Mykel Moreno. The child was diagnosed with stage three liver cancer.
“Marshal is a part of our family and we want to do everything we can to help him out,” Shawnee Fire Department Captain Scott Killgore said.
A fundraising car wash at the former home of Joe Cooper Ford, near the MacArthur and Harrison intersection, will take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., depending on the turnout.
Marshal is currently at OU Children's Hospital and there is a possibility of being transferred out of state to receive more treatment.
Moreno has been with the Shawnee Fire Department for six months.
Along with the car wash, there will be a dunk tank, fire trucks on display and the Shawnee Fire Clowns in attendance. Shawnee High School students will be assisting with the car wash.
The Shawnee Fire Foundation and Local 206 are sponsoring the event, with help from sponsors offering both manpower and donations to make the event a success, Killgore said.
In addition to the car wash, a benefit bank account has been set up for the family at Arvest.
