Kickapoo Park Community Garden is a collaborative effort part of Blue Zones Project Pottawatomie County Community Garden Sub-Committee and Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County.

The project came to the attention of Community Renewal when neighbors in the area voiced their interest in having a community garden during an information session around the introduction of the Friendship House currently being built in the neighborhood.

The Community Garden Committee is tasked with expanding the presence of, support for and resident involvement in community gardens, and fully backing this idea has been a priority since the fall of 2017.

Many items have had to take place to get to this point including transfer of property ownership of the lot from Pottawatomie County Commissioners to the City of Shawnee which has in place an ordinance that allows community gardens on vacant lots.

There will be a groundbreaking ceremony Friday March 16 at 9 a.m. The following day on March 17, there will be a work day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The garden will officially be open on April 28.
