Evelyn Amelia (Brave) Haney, 89, of McLoud, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2018.

Evelyn Amelia (Brave) Haney, 89, of McLoud, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2018.

Evelyn was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Oklahoma City to Alex and Alice (Frazier) Brave. She grew up and attended schools in the McLoud and Shawnee area, graduating around 1946.

Evelyn married the love of her life, Norman P. Haney Sr., and they were married for many years before he went to be with the Lord.

Evelyn had many jobs throughout her life. Taking care of her children and grandchildren was by far the most important to her. She worked at Western Electric in Shawnee for several years. She also worked in home health care before retiring ten years ago.

Evelyn was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the United Methodist Nagagee Church in.

Evelyn was a proud member of the American Indian Movement. She was a graduate of Rose State College, obtaining an Associate of Arts degree. She was also a proud member of the Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also loved her church family as well.She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Evelyn was known to be happy and content as long as she had her copy of the daily Shawnee News-Star, coffee, cigarettes, and her satellite TV.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Norman P. Haney; parents Alex and Alice (Frazier) Brave; two sons, Michael Haney and Norman Haney Sr.; three brothers, Francis Brave, Alexander Brave, and Judson Brave; and one sister Margaret Whitewater.

Her survivors include two her daughters, Muriel Wakolee and husband David of Shawnee, Janet Byington and husband Timothy of the home; and granddaughter Sarah Haney Byington of the home.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 19, at the Kickapoo friends Center in McLoud.
