The Historic Shawnee Alliance (HSA) has facade grant money available. If you own a business or building in the downtown C4 business district, you may be eligible for a matching grant up to $4,000 to improve your building’s facade. Guidelines and the application are available on the HSA’s web site at

Grant money can be used to improve the building front (or side if on a corner). Eligible projects include cleaning and painting the wall surface, masonry repair, replacing windows and doors, replacing historically appropriate signage, repair or replacement of original architectural detail, removal of awnings, and installation of permanently-affixed landscaping.

Funds for this program are provided by the City of Shawnee, Shawnee Economic Development Foundation, and Shawnee Industrial Authority.

During the first couple of weeks in May, the HSA will be distributing information about the program to downtown building and business owners and requesting feedback in the form of a short survey. We encourage all survey recipients to take time to answer the questions and provide comments so that we may better meet their needs and improve the overall look of downtown Shawnee.
