Tracy L. McDaniel, Special District Judge for Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, announces her candidacy for Pottawatomie County Associate District Judge.

McDaniel is committed to continuing her service to the citizens of Pottawatomie County in the area of law that has always been her focus. The primary day to day court docket responsibilities of the Associate District Judge are centered around family law. During her time in private practice, McDaniel’s career centered around family law – divorce, child custody modifications, adoptions, guardianships, guardian ad litem work and juvenile law. McDaniel also represented the City of Prague, the Town of Asher and the City of Shawnee.

During law school, she sought out a professor to lead her in an independent study on juvenile law, because there was not a juvenile delinquency course offered at the time. In 2009, McDaniel was named Pottawatomie County Child Advocate of the Year. In 2011, McDaniel closed her private practice and joined the District Attorney’s Office to pursue her calling to handle the deprived and delinquent juvenile dockets for both Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties. In her capacity as Assistant District Attorney, McDaniel provided the civil representation for both counties as well.

McDaniel has always been passionate about the juvenile system. While at the District Attorney’s office, McDaniel became a founding member of the Pottawatomie County Child Welfare Collaborative, a position she still serves in today. The Collaborative, among many other things, has been instrumental in maintaining school based social workers, nurses, substance abuse and mental health counselors in Pottawatomie County Schools. The Collaborative’s teams of providers help put families in touch with services and provide invaluable preventative services that help families in need or in crisis in an effort to safely keep these families together.

McDaniel is dedicated to carrying on her work for the families and juveniles of Pottawatomie County.

“My concern and passion for children, some of our most vulnerable and impressionable members of society, are what have driven me in every step of my career, leading me to the position of Associate District Judge of Pottawatomie County. Making sure our children and families are taken care of will always remain my priority” said McDaniel. Additionally, McDaniel is committed to providing her experience to the citizens of the county during jury terms where the Associate District Judge’s responsibilities include presiding over juvenile, civil and criminal jury trials.
