Tecumseh police on Monday released the name of a man killed Saturday morning when his pickup collided head-on with an Army National Guard bus on U.S. 177 south of Tecumseh.

Tecumseh Police Chief J.R. Kidney said the crash occurred about 5:15 a.m. on U.S. 177 near Broadway Extension, resulting in one fatality and nine soldiers injured..

Kidney identified the man who died as David Joshua Nelson, 37. He had a Meeker address, Kidney said, but was residing in Ada.

Nelson was driving a a northbound Chevrolet pickup that went left of center, Kidney said, and struck head-on an Army National Guard bus that was southbound.

The Oklahoma Army National Guard reported the bus was transporting 26 soldiers with the 1245th Transportation Company, a detachment out of Ada.

The guard reported that the nine soldiers went by ambulance to the hospital. Another 17 soldiers were taken by a bus to the hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries.

Kidney, who said most injuries were reported to be minor, said one solider did have lacerations and broken bones. The Guard on Saturday said all of the soldiers were in stable condition.

Tecumseh police are still investigating cause of the crash.
