Gary Z. “Tooter” Brown, 82, of Shawnee, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, in Shawnee.

He was born to Rufus Anderson and Lillian B. (Webb) Brown on Aug. 2, 1936, in Macomb.

Tooter was raised in the New Hope Community, northwest of Tecumseh. He, along with his father, operated Brown & Son Auto Salvage.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord in Monterrey, California.

In 1959, he married Linda Lou Kitchen. After marriage they made their home in Shawnee for the past 59 years.

Tooter was the owner/operator of Brown & Sons Towing Company in Shawnee.

He was an outspoken family leader and loving father. He was a business leader and well respected in his industry. He will be greatly missed by his wrecker family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lillian Brown; two brothers, Darrell Brown and R.B. Brown; and four sisters, Ina Nell Coffey, Doris Diggs, Wanna Williams and Virginia Daley.

Survivors include his wife Linda (Kitchen) Brown of the home; son, Scott and Tina Brown of the Shawnee; daughter, Crystal Brown of Shawnee; eight grandchildren, Sara Renee and Andreas Martinez, Josey Raine Brown, Sahara Rain Brown, Samson Scott Zane Brown, Saxson Rufus Rane Brown, Jesse Dean Yell, Jerico Hargus and Summer and Matt Timperley; three great-grandchildren, Jake Martinez, Jaxi Brown and Asher Timperley; nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous caring friends and acquaintances in and around the community.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Michael Barksdale, Apostolic Mission in Shawnee, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Following the service there will be a Procession to Brown & Sons Towing Recovery for a reception.
