Dale got the tying run to the plate in the final frame but they couldn't overcome Byng's big lead in an 8-5 loss to Class A's 7th ranked team.
The Pirates - ranked No. 3 in Class A - gave up four runs in the top of the first inning courtesy of three walks, a couple of errors and a home run.
Ryan Haney got the start on the mound. He struggled a little himself - giving up four runs - and his defense wasn't able to help take up the slack. All four runs Haney gave up were unearned.
Karson Hunt came in with two outs in the first and pitched five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three while giving up four earned runs.
Jared Rogers was called on to finish the final two outs of the game for Dale. He came on in the seventh with runners on second and third and gave up a single to allow Byng's final two runs of the game.
In the seventh, David Herring walked and Cooper Hunt was hit by a pitch to start a final rally. Karson Hunt slapped a double to center field to score both of the runners and cut the lead to 8-5. With two outs Jono Johnson walked to put runners on the corners but Byng was able to escape with the win.
Herring went 2 for 3 with a walk and scored three times. Karson Hunt also had two hits and three RBI. Rogers had one hit and two RBI.
Dale is back in action Saturday at home against Sterling.
