MIDWEST CITY – Shawnee hung with the defending 5A state champions early but were unable to keep pace, losing 47-7 to Carl Albert Friday evening.

“Carl Albert is a really good team,” coach Billy Brown said. “We have to get better on offense. Even though we gave up 47 points the defense played pretty well. We just have to find a way to give our defense a rest and score some points.”

The Titans scored the first touchdown of the evening on a one-yard DeJuana MacArthur run. With the converted extra point, Carl Albert led 7-0.

Later in the first quarter MacArthur scored his second touchdown, this one came from 31 yards out. Another extra point gave the Titans a 14-0 lead.

The Shawnee passing game got rolling when Heath Hunter found Scout Cawvey for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Kossi Kodoe's kick made it 14-7 in favor of Carl Albert.

Early in the second quarter, freshman Jaylon Orange intercepted a pass but a defensive holding negated the turnover.

At halftime Shawnee trailed Carl Albert 21-7.

Carl Albert's Javion Hunt scored the first touchdown of the second half. After the extra point the Titans led 28-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, Cawvey returned the ball to the 50-yard line, but the Wolves were unable to capitalize on their best field position of the evening.

The next series for Carl Albert resulted in a 10-yard touchdown run from MacArthur. The running back also had a 49-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

To put the nail in the coffin, Jayvieon Traylor intercepted a Heath Hunter pass and returned it for a touchdown.

Hunter led the Wolves with 123 yards passing and a touchdown.

In Tre'Juan Shaw's return to the lineup, he carried the ball 10 times for 34 yards.

Cawvey led Shawnee in receiving on five receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Trenton Skinner was held to one reception for four yards, but he carried the ball four times for 22 yards.

Orange hauled in four receptions for 32 yards.

Next week Shawnee (0-3) will host Sand Springs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
