Leo Burns, 89, of Shawnee, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with John Hooper officiating.

Leo was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Springer to Oscar and Christine (Spencer) Burns.

He served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. He also served as a Shawnee police officer for a few years. Leo worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base for eight years before retiring from MKT/Union Pacific Railroad as a steel bridge foreman in 1996. After retirement, he served the Pottawatomie County Court House as bailiff for a short time.

He married Florence Johnston on Nov. 5, 1952.

He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Christine Burns, one brother and one sister.

Leo is survived by his wife, Florence, their daughter, Cecil Dunlap and her husband Jerry, four grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
