The Absentee Shawnee Tribal Police and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office have entered into an Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement. This agreement allows both the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Cleveland County Sherriff’s Office to respond to calls without delay whether on State land or Tribal Trust lands.
This is one more barrier removed that will prevent criminals, wanted persons, or fugitives from justice, from hiding behind jurisdictional boundaries. This agreement also streamlines law enforcement response where the closest officer, regardless of which agency he/she works for, can respond and address criminal activity.
Resources from both departments can be shared rather than duplicated, such as manpower and specialized equipment, creating efficiency within a joint response. All of these cooperative efforts will ensure the highest level of public safety for all residents, both native and non-native. AST Police already have a similar agreement in Pottawatomie County.
