Shawnee defeated visiting Carl Albert 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20 Thursday night.

“We played with Carl Albert the whole set. We went back and forth until we got to 20 and we started to pull way,” Shawnee coach Julia Holland said of the first set.

Of the second set: “We got down early. We dug a hole but we did fight back. We made a lot of errors. It wasn’t that they were scoring on us. We would hit out, hit in the net or would not be in position in our defense.

Then in the third set, we played much better. We were able to run our offense. In set 3, we got ahead by 10 points which got us going. Our girls worked the net very aggressively in sets 3 and 4.”

Shawnee will be idle until road tests against Choctaw Tuesday and Westmoore Thursday. Shawnee’s next home match will be Oct. 4 versus El Reno. Seven seniors will be recognized on Oct. 4.
