DALE – The Lady Pirates are one win away from the state tournament.
After dismantling Frederick 14-0 in the first game, Dale came back Thursday evening and beat Stroud 7-1 in the semifinals.
“I told the girls that Stroud is a state tournament team and we had to play well,” Coach Andy Powell said. “Now Stroud has to beat us twice and that takes the pressure off of us tomorrow.”
Stroud led after the first half inning of play. The Lady Pirates tied things up on a Rylie Premo double that scored Anna Hester.
Dale struggled early on, leaving six runners on base through the first three innings.
“Leaving that many runners on base is a recipe for losing,” Powell said. “We have to have timely hits and in the playoffs you can't afford to leave runners on.
Timely hits came in the fourth inning.
“I figured we could get five or six runs,” Powell said. “After those first few innings we had to wake up and luckily we did.”
Lacey Savage brought home Skyler Thompson and Danyn Lang with a one-out triple. Delanie Manning followed with a single and her courtesy runner, Anna Hester stole a base. Lacey Savage and Hester both scored on a Premo double. The third run of the inning came on a Sara Lock single that scored Premo.
After the third inning, Dale led 6-1.
The Lady Pirates scored one run in the bottom of the fifth when Jobey Savage scored on a passed ball.
Delanie Manning pitched a complete game. She surrendered one earned run and struck out seven.

Premo recorded the first hit for the Lady Pirates which came with two outs and scored Manning and Emmie Idleman. Addie Bell followed up with an RBI single, scoring the courtesy runner, Anna Hester. The hit parade continued with a Jobey Savage double that scored Bell. Sydney Griggs scored Savage on a sacrifice fly and Dale held a significant lead after one inning.
In the second inning Dale tacked on two more runs. Sara Lock reached on an error that scored Hester. Lock stole second and scored when Bell made contact for a single.
