ASHER — Trevor Martin twirled a one-hitter Thursday, igniting seventh-ranked Asher to a 1-0 triumph over fourth-ranked Whitesboro in a Class B regional tournament semifinal contest.

Martin, who threw 103 pitches in the game, registered 12 strikeouts. Seventy-three of his pitches were strikes.

Asher’s run came in the bottom of the fifth when Ty Herndon singled in Chase Eckert.

Asher’s only other hit in six innings was Mike McDonald’s single.

In its first regional game Thursday, Jake Dobbs earned a pitching victory as Asher blasted Granite 9-1.

Coach Shane Coker’s Asher squad needs just one victory today to advance to next week’s state tournament.

Today’s action will start with an elimination game. The winner of that elimination bout would have to defeat Asher twice to take the regional title.
