SHAWNEE – The Lady Pirates are one step closer to their goal of repeating as Class 2A Fastpitch

Champions.

With the 10-0 six-inning win over Colbert Thursday afternoon, Dale is on to the semifinals.

Coach Andy Powell is relying on his eight seniors, Jobey Savage, Rylie Premo, Lacey Savage, Myca Roberson, Sydney Griggs, Skyler Thompson, Sara Lock and Delanie Manning, to help bring Dale their second consecutive state title.

“I thought this was a great game,” Powell said. “We played well and hit all throughout the lineup. This bunch has been through every scenario, but I'll talk to them. Since we're so senior oriented, I think they'll stay dialed in.”

In the top of the first, Colbert started off with back-to-back groundouts before a Hannah Rhoades single gave the Lady Leopards a glimmer of hope. Dale pitcher Delanie Manning struck out the next batter, Kinzee Coker, to end the inning.

In Dale's first chance to bat, Lacey Savage scored Danyn Lang to give the Lady Pirates an early 1-0 advantage.

Manning struck out the first Colbert batter before surrendering a single to Toree Buck. She was unable to score as Erin Key and Presley Swindell struck out to end the top of the second.

With the bases loaded, Jobey Savage was hit by a pitch and Premo scored. Pinch hitter, Jalynn Haley brought Idleman home on a sacrifice fly. Through five innings, Dale held a comfortable 7-0 lead.

Dale finished things off in the bottom of the sixth. Idleman brought Lacey Savage home on a fielder's choice. Lock singled and scored Hester and a Jobey Savage sacrifice RBI, scoring Premo gave Dale the 10 runs it needed to end things early.

Manning pitched a six-inning shutout. She surrendered four hits and fanned seven Colbert batters. Dale will return to action Friday morning to face Pawnee, who advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 win over Howe Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
