The The Tecumseh Police Department conducted tobacco compliance checks recently on all establishments that sell tobacco products within the city limits of Tecumseh.

TPD reports that an underage minor was sent into six different establishments, where five of the six establishments asked for identification and turned the minor away.

The only establishment that sold tobacco to a minor was Granny Stevens, even after looking at the underage minor's identification. A clerk there was cited for selling tobacco to a minor, TPD reported.

TPD had received several complaints about Granny Stevens, in particular, selling tobacco products to minors.

“We would like to thank the other five establishments for following the laws and rules governing tobacco sales and helping keeping the kids in our community safe and healthy,” the department noted.
