• Enjoy some chili and fun in McLoud: Saturday is the annual McLoud Chili Cook Off. The festival will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Veterans Park in McLoud. Chili tasting kits are $5 at the chamber booth and there will be contests, live music, a scavenger hunt and much more. Tasting begins at 11 a.m and will continue until the chili is gone.

• Help move the books: The St. Gregory's Abbey Great Book Pass will be Saturday, Oct. 20. St. Gregory's Abbey recently purchased 13,000 theology, religion and philosophy books from the university auction. The books will be moved next door to the renovated Bernard Murphy Conference Center and Abbey Library. Volunteers are needed for the book brigade to pass the books one at a time to their new home. The Book Pass will be held from 9-4 p.m. Oct. 20. Mass will be held at 8 a.m. Volunteers not attending Mass are asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
