ASHER – The Lady Indians played great defense, stealing the ball 15 times, and beat Wanette 60-22 Tuesday evening.
“I was very impressed with our effort tonight,” Asher coach Teresa Fowler said. “It was a good night to get everyone some minutes.”
Asher held a 16-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Sarah Fleming and Ryan Herndon scored five and four in the run.
The Lady Indians went on an 18-point run to start the second frame. Wanette broke the streak with 1:50 remaining in the first half. Herndon had a team-high 11 points in the quarter.
Asher's defense recorded 14 steals in the first half.
Asher managed a 40-10 lead at halftime.
“I told them to be disciplined in the second half and stay focused,” Fowler said. “They played 100 percent all four quarters and they did that tonight.”
It was more Asher in the second half as they kept up the pace maintaining a 55-17 lead after the third frame.
Asher held Wanette to 12 points in the second half.
Herndon led all scorers with 22. She also added six steals. Fleming joined her in double figures with 13 points and hauled in seven rebounds.
Asher (4-1) will return to action Nov. 27 with a road game against Stonewall.
