A suspect who allegedly tried to steal a hunter's pickup was arrested Wednesday after being identified in a photo lineup and then tracked down in Bethel.

Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Palmer said events began to unfold on Tuesday in the area of 45th and Bethel Road, where deer hunters were out in the woods.

They saw a suspect walking in that area before the suspect tried to steal one of the hunter's pickups, the undersheriff said.

The hunters confronted him and he took off on foot. A two-hour manhunt by deputies found no trace of him.

Because the suspect had a distinct lightning bolt tattoo on his forehead, Palmer said they searched the jail photos and found several previous book-in photos with people having such a tattoo, so they presented the hunters with a photo lineup.

Hunters identified the suspect and he was tracked down about noon Wednesday in the area of SH 102 and Belcher Road and then jailed on a complaint of attempted auto theft.

The suspect was in the process of being booked in Wednesday afternoon; formal charges have not been filed.
