ASHER — Patch Hamilton poured in 21 points and Mike McDonald aided with 14 Tuesday as Asher upended Tupelo 60-46 in opening-round play of the Pontotoc Conference Tournament.

Six other Asher players scored as the Indians improved to 6-2.

“Tupelo shot well in the first half,” Asher coach Scott Hamilton said. “We mixed up the defenses and kept them guessing in the second half.”

Asher will take on Class 2A No. 3 Vanoss at 8 p.m. Friday in further tournament action.

Girls

Alexis Chamberlain spearheaded Stonewall’s 52-45 Pontotoc Conference Tournament victory over Asher with 24 points.

Ryan Herndon of Asher had a team-high 19 points and teammate Sarah Fleming came in with 12. Herndon had four 3-point field goals.

Dawson Lyon of Stonewall recorded three treys. Stonewall finished with seven treys.

Asher’s next tournament action will be at 4 p.m. Friday against Tupelo.

Asher is 5-3.
