BETHEL ACRES — Down 42-40 with a little over five minutes remaining, Bethel went on a 12-0 run to whip Perkins-Tryon 52-42 Thursday night at the First United Bank Classic in Bethel.
Bethel outscored Perkins-Tryon 19-9 in the final quarter as Jaylon Gordon produced nine points and Anthony Franklin had eight. Gordon finished with 14 points while Franklin had 13. Both players recorded two treys.
Dylan Moss was the only double-figure scorer for Perkins-Tryon with 10.
Bethel defeated Perkins-Tryon in last year’s championship game.
In today’s 5:30 semifinals, Bethel will match up against Oklahoma City Casady, a 61-30 first-round winner over Silo.
Sophomore Kennedy Gregory recorded 15 points as Bethel knocked off Tecumseh 48-34 Thursday at the First United Bank Classic.
Senior Keagan Engle poured in 12 points, including two 3-pointers, as Bethel improved to 2-2 and advanced to today’s 7 p.m. semifinals against Silo.
For Tecumseh (1-3), senior Madison Day chalked up 13 points. Day was 3 of 7 from 3-point range.
Tawny Billy, a Tecumseh sophomore, had nine points.
Bethel was 18 of 25 from the charity stripe for 72 percent. Tecumseh was 5 of 10 for 50 percent.
Bethel outscored Tecumseh 32-20 in the second half.
Tecumseh will engage Lone Grove at 1 p.m. today in consolation play.
