SHAWNEE – Trenton Nadeau scored 31 points, but the Earlsboro Wildcats were unable to hold off Class A No. 6 Varnum Whippets, losing 66-59 in the semifinal round of the Little River Conference Tournament Thursday evening.
Earlsboro fell behind early after a 7-0 run by Varnum. The Wildcats knocked down 5 three-pointers in the first quarter and led 22-14. Nadeau and Izaiah Wind each knocked down two treys apiece.
Nadeau had two more triples in the second quarter and the Wildcats extended their lead to 33-22 at the half.
Earlsboro held an 18-point lead early in the third quarter before Varnum went on a run and the Whippets trailed 47-44 at the end of the third quarter. Varnum outscored Earlsboro 25-6 in the final quarter.
Nadeau led all scorers with 31 points. Wind finished with 12 points and 4 three-pointers.
Earlsboro will play Paden Saturday in the third-place game of the Little River Conference Tournament. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
