Shawnee resident, Wendell R. York, 78, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Shawnee resident, Wendell R. York, 78, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Wendell was born in Okemah, Oklahoma, on Aug. 29, 1940, to Charlie and Velma York. He graduated from Mason High School. On May 24, 1961, he married the love of his life, Leta Joyce Taylor. They were married 47 years when she passed away on Dec. 27, 2008.

Wendell was a production/planning and engineering manager at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of the NRA, US Marshal Assoc. and the OK Sheriff’s Assoc. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Laura York Farmer of Shawnee and Wendy York Hudlow of Edmond. Grandchildren, Dustin York Hudlow and wife Kayla of Edmond, Gage Taylor Hudlow and wife Taylor of Oklahoma City, and Madison Rei Farmer of Shawnee. Great-Grandchildren, Kenleigh Hudlow, Lilliana Hudlow and two to arrive summer of 2019. His companion of five years, Loretta Gouker, and multiple family and close friends.
