Education majors in OBU’s Teacher Education Science Methods course recently hosted a STEM Day of Learning titled “The Sizzling Science Show: A STEM Study of Matter and Chemical Change.” Fourth grade students from Sequoyah Elementary in Shawnee attended the event recently in the Geiger Center on OBU’s campus in Shawnee.

Students in this course treated 70 fourth graders to an interactive, hands-on day of science learning. The opportunity promotes the field of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for children. It is a great opportunity for future teachers from OBU’s teacher education division to practice their pedagogy and experience both the joy and struggles of teaching.

The OBU teacher education students that created the curriculum include Gretchen Johnson, Brianna Roark, Abby Welch, Hannah Simmons, Taylor Reaves, Rachel Richie, Jessica George, Veronica Parra, Olivia Dudley, and Allison Wilmoth. Dr. Jeanne Akin, Mary A. White Professor of Education, facilitated the event that is created each semester.
