National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday, Dec. 15, including events locally in the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas to honor veterans and fallen law enforcement officers.
Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, wreath-laying ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.
Through fundraising efforts, wreaths are placed to honor those who have served.
The local Roll To Wreath Escort as part of Wreaths Across America will be in the Tecumseh and Shawnee area Dec. 15.
The escort will leave Oklahoma City at 9 a.m. and arrive at the Tecumseh Alumni Center, 901 N. 13th Street, for a wreath ceremony there at 11:30 a.m.
There will be a full police escort as part of the festivities, with organizers offering appreciation to the many who are assisting, including the Tecumseh Police and Fire Departments, the Shawnee Police and Fire Departments as well as the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office.
The escort also will travel U.S. 177 to MacArthur, then east to Broadway Street and south to downtown Shawnee for a wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial as well as the Pottawatomie County Fallen Officers Memorial in front of the courthouse.
Fundraising is always going on for the yearly event. If you'd like more information or can help sponsor a wreath, go to: http://wreathsacrossamerica.org/ok0019p
