SHAWNEE – The Lady Wolves pulled out another quality win over a ranked opponent.
Shawnee came from behind to force overtime and hit clutch free throws late to give the Class 6A No. 5 Lady Wolves a 61-53 win over No. 8 Ponca City Friday evening.
“Ponca City is a really good team,” Coach Wendi Wells said. “Their length defensively and their 3-2 zone caused a lot of problems. We were not on our game early but responded nicely.”

The fourth quarter and overtime belonged to the Lady Wolves.
“Our energy was much better late in the game,” Wells said. “Early on we were doing too much off the dribble. We weren’t moving like we needed to, but the last three minutes of the game we were a lot more active and that was the difference.”

On Shawnee’s next trip up the floor Lauren Fields made a layup and gave the Lady Wolves the momentary lead 42-40. A Putnam City layup tied the game and the teams were forced to play in overtime.
In overtime, Megehee converted an and-one opportunity and Shawnee went up 52-49. The Lady Wolves went on to ice the game with free throws.
