Merry & Bright, a holiday event recently offered by First National Bank & Trust Co. for women in Shawnee and the surrounding area. brought more than holiday spirit to the community. Featured author, speaker and singer, LaDonna Gatlin provided an inspirational message, music and humor but the focus of Merry & Bright was also to bring joy and a financial donation to local non-profit, Project Safe.

While Merry & Bright was offered at no charge, those attending were given the opportunity to join First National Bank & Trust Co. in benefitting the work of Project Safe. “A great many of our employees give their time and even needed goods to Project Safe routinely but we wanted to do more,” explained Larry Briggs, President and CEO of FNB. “To benefit this organization who does such good work in our area, we decided we would match, dollar for dollar, the contributions given by those attending Merry & Bright. To make the effort even more meaningful, LaDonna Gatlin donated 100% of the proceeds of the sale of her books and CDs.”

The Merry & Bright audience and Gatlin gave generously making the total donation to Project Safe as a result of Merry & Bright $6,028. “We are beyond blessed by this amazing gesture from the community and First National Bank & Trust Co.,” said Renee Clemmons, Executive Director of Project Safe. “This time of year our organization has even greater needs and unfortunately more people need our services. Now we will be able to help more women who deal with violence and abuse as well as their children.”
