ODOT lists highway conditions Update 1-3-19 as of 8 p.m.

Drivers should use extreme caution in the overnight hours across the state, as temperatures drop and slick conditions continue to develop on highways.

In central and western Oklahoma, areas of snow and slush are reported and crews continue to plow and treat roadways and bridges. Slick conditions on interstates are reported on I-35 through the Arbuckles north of Ardmore, on I-35 north of Guthrie and also on I-40 west of Oklahoma City. Use caution if travel is necessary, especially on bridges and overpasses.

In eastern Oklahoma, pavements saturated by rainy conditions throughout the day have the potential to quickly freeze as temperatures drop. Drivers should be alert to black ice conditions. Crews will continue to monitor and treat slick areas overnight.

In Pittsburg County, SH-31 is closed until further notice between McAlester and Haywood due to flooding.

Motorists are encouraged to check driving conditions on www.okroads.org, which features the department's new snow plow cameras. Camera views for the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas are available at www.oktraffic.org. Both websites may be accessed via ODOT's new mobile app for iPhones.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

• Stay at least 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.

• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.

• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.

• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
