GUTHRIE – The Lady Wolves started the 2019 portion of their season with a 56-24 blowout over Guthrie Friday evening.

It was a slow first quarter, but Shawnee built a 9-3 advantage.

The Lady Wolves turned up the intensity in the second quarter and outscored Guthrie 15-5, making it a 24-8 lead at the break.

To continue their trend of dominating second-half basketball, Shawnee held Guthrie to two points in the third quarter. The Lady Wolves managed to score 18 points in the quarter.

“We played very sound, aggressive defense,” Coach Wendi Wells said. “We limited the number of second shots and played with great composure on rebounds and running the break off their misses.”

Over the last 3 third quarters, Shawnee allowed a total of nine points.

Aubrie Megehee led Shawnee with 14 points and five steals.

Lauren Fields added 13 points and three steals.

Ashely Kasterke scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Class 6A No. 5 Shawnee (11-0) returns to action Jan. 18 when they travel to El Reno. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
