Neil Clemens, 80, of Shawnee, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, in Shawnee.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1938, to Jesse Willard and Lucille Marie (Harvey) Clemens in Calvin, Oklahoma.

Neil was raised in the Shawnee area and attended Shawnee Public Schools. He moved to California after high school and returned to the Shawnee area and made his home there until moving to Tecumseh.

He married Deloris Ailey on Nov. 30, 1957, at Hilltop Baptist Church in Shawnee, and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2008. He later married Ruth Ann Hackett Hassen on Jan. 24, 2015, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Neil worked as a union pipefitter for 50 years and was a member of the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 344. He started and ran Trade Mechanical Business for several years and owned and operated a dozer service for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and was an excellent carpenter, but his passion and favorite pastime was riding horses, trail riding and camping.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris Clemens; and his parents, Jess and Lucille Clemens.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth Ann Clemens of the home; three daughters, Kim Clemens and Buddy Scarberry of Shawnee, Dayna Clemens of Shawnee, and Kelly Clemens of Shawnee; one son, Richard Neil Clemens Jr. and wife Connie of Bethel Acres; five grandchildren, Kye Cox and wife Ashley, Justin Seckel, Jennifer and Aaron Daniels, Chelsea and Justin Pillar and Jessie Clemens; six great-grandchildren, Kenzie Daniels, Cade Daniels, Delaney Mae Cox, and coming in March, Presley Jo Cox, Jed Pillar and Jaxon Pillar; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Nyal and Jo Clemens, Tommy Joe and Sharon Clemens, and Henry and Charlotte Pernell; one sister and one brother-in-law, Bonnie and Kevin Hudgins; step-children, David Kippert, Danny Hassen and Khristi and Jess Norris; and many loving friends and extended family.

The family has designated Garden Grove Children’s Ministry as appropriate for memorials.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, and continue through service time.

Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee with Pastor Charlie Clem officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
