Tecumseh High School senior Kayla McGruder, one of the two September finalists, was named The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Student of the Month for 2018-19.
“Kayla is never negative and shows herleadership with actions,” Tecumseh High School Principal Randy Dilbeck said. “She is helpful, kind (not a mean bone in her body), encouraging, polite and may be the sweetest girl ever.”
Because of her academic excellence, moral integrity and volunteerism, McGruder is now a finalist for a chance to win a car.
Dilbeck said McGruder will help anyone at any time, no matter what the situation is.
McGruder is a member of the THS track team; she's been two-time all-state cross country and has been chosen student of the month four times — once each year during high school.
“Whether on the track or in class, Kayla gives her all and always attributes her success to God, giving Him all the glory,” THS science teacher Mary Keck said.
McGruder's volunteerism includes working the concession stands for all school clubs and working at her church for many different causes, Dilbeck said.
