Dale High School senior Shyala Perry, one of the two December finalists, was named The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Student of the Month for 2018-19.
Nominator Allison Robinson said Perry displays her leadership by taking the initiative to organize events.
“She steps out of the box,” Robinson said. “Recently she organized memorial materials for a community loss, and before school, Shyala started working on school spirit bulletin boards so students would remain inspired.”
Robinson said Perry did both without being asked.
“She sees the need to lift others up,” she said.
Because of her academic excellence, moral integrity and volunteerism, Perry is now a finalist for a chance to win a car.
Robinson said Perry has been involved in things like student council camp, Rotary Club camp, blood drive, prom committee, tutoring elementary children, as well as organizing various events.
Perry is a giver, Robinson said, looking for ways to help anyone and everyone.
“Shyala is the last student to ask for attention,” she said. “She reaches out to other students every day.”
