STROUD — Propelled by Anthony Billy’s 17-point, nine-rebound effort, Tecumseh staved off Preston 55-53 Thursday afternoon at the Stroud Coliseum Classic.

Billy went 8 of 12 from the field and dished out four assists as Tecumseh improved to 10-2.

Junior Alex Schovanec compiled 11 points and five rebounds as the Savages advanced to tonight’s 8:20 semifinal opposite Thursday’s Mannford-Stroud winner. Mannford, ranked sixth in 4A, is 9-0 and the Classic’s No. 1 seed.

Senior Jayden Shafer of Tecumseh produced nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Tecumseh, with 4.4 seconds remaining, missed the front end of a 1-and-1 situation but Preston quickly committed a turnover.


Tecumseh, 2-10, dropped a 62-37 first-round decision to Luther after trailing 38-17 at the half.

Baylee Crawford, a 5-10 sophomore, led Tecumseh with 10 points. Senior Addison Day posted eight points and freshman Schantel Evans finished with nine.

Tecumseh will play Seminole at 11 a.m. today in consolation action.
