KINGSTON — Dale’s Class 2A top-ranked squads collected first-round victories Thursday at the Kingston New Year’s Classic.
Dale’s boys escalated their record to 11-2 with a 71-52 decision over Tishomingo.
Senior Palmer Jones topped Dale’s scoring with 13, followed by sophomore Gabe Gouge with 12 and freshman Trae Thompson with 11. Jones deposited three 3-point field goals Brady Johnson canned two 3-pointers among his eight points.
Dale coach Jeff Edmonson employed 15 players with nine scoring.
“We played really hard. We had balanced scoring and played good defense,” Edmonson said.
Dale will oppose ninth-ranked Rock Creek in today’s 5:40 semifinal.
Dale never trailed in its 64-21 victory over Rock Creek after leading 35-9 at halftime.
Head coach Eric Smith emptied his bench as 10 players scored.
Brenlee Sheppard was the top scorer with 15, including a 6-of-6 outing at the free-throw line. Dale went 12 of 14 from the charity stripe.
Lindy Nowakowski added eight points and Lacey Savage scored six points and took three charges.
Dale, 12-1, will collide with Silo, a Thursday winner over Talihina, in today’s 4 p.m. semifinal.
