EARLSBORO—On to the ‘ship. The Earlsboro Lady Wildcats advanced into tonight’s championship game of the Jim Walling Classic with a 56-51 win over the Dewar Lady Dragons Friday night.
It didn’t take long for the Lady Wildcats to show inside dominance over the Lady Dragons. The combo of Breanna Nadeau and Alexxis Coon was just too much for Dewar to handle. The two combined for 43 of Earlsboro’s 56 points. Nadeau led all scorers with 24, while Coon added 19. Abbey McCarroll added 10 for the Lady Wildcats.
Earlsboro led 19-13 after the first quarter then extended the lead to 31-21 at the half.
The Lady Dragons made things more uncomfortable for Earlsboro in the second half. They cut the deficit to 40-36 after the third quarter. Dewar outscored the Lady Wildcats 15-9 in that frame.
The Lady Dragons’ Savannah Been got red-hot in the final quarter after she hit her third consecutive trey and two free throws. She gave her team their first lead of the game at 47-46.
That lead wouldn’t last long, as Coon responded with back-to-back bombs of her own, which gave the lady Wildcats some much needed breathing room down the final stretch.
The Lady Wildcats held Dewar to just four points in the final two minutes of play to seal the win.
Earlsboro will face Smithville in the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m.
