BETHANY — Class 4A 11th-ranked Bethany whipped McLoud 59-27 Friday in the semifinals of the Bethany Classic.

Bethany led 21-11 at halftime and McLoud was within 11 points at the 1:00 mark of the third quarter before the hosts broke away.

Brandon Vinson spearheaded McLoud’s scoring with 14 points and Tristan Crook chipped in with 14. Brendan Howard had McLoud’s other two points.

McLoud will match up up against Tahlequah in Saturday’s third-place game at 5:30.

McLoud coach Doug Armstrong praised his squad after they dropped a 52-27 decision to Class 5A top-ranked Piedmont.

“Piedmont scored over 100 points Thursday and they had to hit two late treys to get to 52 points,” Armstrong said. “Defensively, we competed hard and challenged shots. We had too many turnovers but I loved our fight and battle.”

Sophomore Cheyenne Banks had 10 points for McLoud (8-5).

Piedmont knocked down eight 3-pointers.

McLoud will engage Friday’s Bethany-Tahlequah loser at 4 p.m. Saturday in the third-place game.
