Prosecutors have filed a first-degree manslaughter charge against a Macomb woman in Pottawatomie County District Court.
Delta Silas, 66, is accused, on or about Oct. 28, and without a premeditated design, of causing the death of her husband, Ronnie Gene Sheppard, 62, while unlawfully engaged in a misdemeanor of driving a 2008 Ford pickup on a private drive in Macomb while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, the filing reads.
Charges allege Silas ran over Sheppard, causing injuries that caused his death.
The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office investigated the death, reporting it occurred during a domestic disturbance between the couple.
Undersheriff Travis Palmer said deputies responded to a home on SH 59B near SH 102 in the Macomb area around 1 a.m., where the couple had been involved in a verbal argument.
Palmer, at the onset of the investigation, said when the wife tried to leave the residence in a pickup to go for a drive to cool off, Sheppard reportedly stepped in front of the pickup and was hit, then pulled under that vehicle.
Sheppard was dragged about 60 feet, Palmer said, adding the wife didn’t realize he was pinned under the truck. Sheppard was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tuesday, Silas appeared in Pottawatomie County District Court on the charge and was released on an Own Recognizance bond. Her next court date now set for Feb. 26, court records show.
