SHAWNEE – Katy Custer scored 26 points helping the Lady Bison force double overtime, but were unable to pull out the comeback, losing 78-76 Thursday evening.

SNU started the game on a 16-0 run. By the 7:07 mark of the first quarter, OBU used two timeouts. Autumn Avina snapped the SNU run by knocking down two from the charity stripe. SNU knocked down 2 three-pointers in the first quarter, compared to one for OBU.

In the second quarter, OBU closed the gap to single digits on a Katy Custer three-pointer. The next trip up the floor SNU made it a 10-point game at 31-21.

Even though SNU knocked down 5 three-pointers in the first half, OBU only trailed 39-26 at halftime. OBU had eight players score in the first half. Victoria Blankenship, Mia Cherry, Imari Bell and Avina scored four points apiece through two quarters.

Irene Perez led SNU with 11 points in the first half.

With 6:30 remaining in the third quarter, Blankenship made it a 44-34 game after grabbing two offensive rebounds and the eventual basket. The next trip up the floor, Custer made her second from long distance.

Custer cut the lead to four after another trey. Her basket at the 1:45 mark made it 48-44 in favor of SNU. With just under a minute left in the quarter, Custer made it a one-point game on her third from long range. Through three quarters, Custer led the game with 16 points.

Again in the fourth quarter it was Custer keeping things close with her fifth trey of the contest. Before an injury timeout, with 6:15 left in the game, OBU trailed 56-54.

Custer then made it a one-point game on another three-pointer. With 4:07 left in the game, OBU trailed 58-57.

Blankenship tied the game at 62-62 with a minute left in the game. SNU threw the ball out of bounds on their next possession. Avina could not get a clean look and SNU grabbed the defensive rebound.

Blankenship’s layup at the buzzer forced overtime.

As time expired in the extra frame, Custer’s attempt at a game winner came up short.

OBU was unable to keep pace in the second overtime.

Custer led all scorers with 26 points. She also recorded one block and one steal in the losing effort.

Avina finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Blankenship recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
