DALE – Dale had their way with the Bethel Lady Wildcats, winning 72-38 Friday evening.

“It feels good to get the win in the Dale-Bethel rivalry,” Coach Eric Smith said. “We had a little break and had some good practices this week.”

The Lady Pirates led 16-12 after the first quarter. Lindy Nowakowski led Dale with six points and one steal in the quarter.

Dale extended their lead to 20-12 and with 5:39 remaining in the first quarter Bethel used a timeout, hoping to stop the run. After the timeout, Dale scored six straight points, forcing the Lady Wildcat to use their second timeout at the 4:04 mark of the second quarter.

Bethel scored their first points of the second quarter with 1:35 remaining.

At intermission, Dale was in the driver’s seat with a 30-17 advantage.

In the first half, Dale struggled from long distance, connecting on 1 of 8 shots. They made up for their struggles with four steals and shot 10 of 15 from the charity stripe.

The Lady Pirates were on cruise control in the second half, scoring 31 points in the third frame. Coach Smith was able to empty his bench in the fourth quarter and saved his starters for the second half of their back-to-back slate.

“We got some players some rest and those who don’t have as much experience a little playing time,” Smith said. “We graduate five seniors so we need to get those players coming up the experience they need.”

Brenlee Sheppard led Dale with 15 points. She knocked down 3 three-pointers and had two steals.

Danyn Lang was the second Lady Pirate in double figures with 13 points.

In the fourth quarter Delanie Manning canned 3 three-pointers and finished third in scoring despite playing less than five minutes.

Harley Gregory led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points.

The Pirates knocked down 10 treys in the game and shot 52 percent after going 1 for 8 in the first half.

Dale shot 11 for 16 from the charity stripe. On defense Dale recorded 14 steals. Lindy Nowakowski led the Lady Pirates with four steals.


The Pirates held on for a 48-38 victory over the Bethel Wildcats.

Dale held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. Brady Johnson led the Pirates with six points on 3-for-3 shooting.

Dallen Forsythe’s layup as time expired in the second quarter gave the Pirates a 25-17 lead at halftime.

The teams traded baskets for much of the second half. By the end of the third quarter, Dale held on to a 34-28 point lead.

Gabe Gouge led all scorers with 14 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, including three offensive boards.

Johnson added 11 points in the win.

Ryan Depuy was Bethel’s top scorer with nine points.

Dale will travel to Ada Saturday for a neutral-site game with Wright City. The girls will play at 3 p.m. and the boys will play at 4.
