MEEKER—The Prague Red Devils and Lady Red Devils took to the road Friday night and came away with a convincing sweep over the Meeker Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. Prague defeated the Lady Bulldogs 40-24 before the Red Devils took care of Meeker 59-42.
For three quarters, the Lady Red Devils and Lady Bulldogs hoop decision was very much up in the air. That’s when the fourth quarter happened.
Prague tightened the screws on defense and held Meeker to just two free throws in the quarter and hit 8-of-13 of their own to pull away.
Meeker jumped on the Lady Red Devils early, sprinting out to a 7-2 lead. Prague rebounded and, when Jaycee Johnson hit a trey with :47 left in the first quarter, took their first lead of the game and never relinquished it.
The Lady Red Devils led 18-15 at the half and bumped up the advantage to 26-22 heading into the final quarter.
Prague’s Caya Wright led all scorers with 13 points and Taylor Hodges added 11. Johnson finished with seven points.
For Meeker, Madison Hedge led the scoring with 11, while Darien Edmonds chipped in for six.
In the nightcap, Prague jumped on Meeker early to take a 17-11 first-quarter lead. Brayden McGinnis was right in the middle of it, scoring six of his team-high 15 points in the opening frame.
Meeker responded in the second quarter, tying the game twice. The first was on Jake Hilburn’s fourth three-pointer of the half at the 6:09 mark to get the count to 17-17. The second tie came with 4:22 left in the half on Kade Brewster’s two free throws and a 19-19 score.
Prague scored the final six points of the half to take a 25-19 lead into the locker room.
The second half proved to be all Prague and a bunch more McGinnis. The 6’2” senior was too much for the Bulldogs in the paint, and he scored nine points in the half. Brady Thorpe joined McGinnis in double digit scoring with 11.
The Red Devils led 41-30 after the third quarter and got the lead up to as many as 22 points late in the fourth. Prague led 56-34 when Isaac Bloomer hit a lay up with 2:09 remaining. Bloomer finished with eight points. Zadden Jones also scored eight for Prague.
Hilburn led all scorers with 17 points, including his four treys. Levi Hayes hit for 15 points, with all five of his field goals coming behind the three-point arc.
