CASHION — A knockout punch in the second quarter served as the impetus for Dale’s 74-42 semifinal flogging of Perry Friday night at the Cashion County Line Tournament.
Up just 14-12 after one quarter, Dale outscored Perry 24-8 in the second period for a 38-20 cushion. The lead expanded to 56-28 entering the final eight minutes.
Elaine Witt was the offensive ringleader with 16 points. Nine other Dale players scored, including Brenlee Sheppard with 12. Danyn Lang and Lacey Savage posted 11 apiece.
Sheppard, a senior, netted eight points in the second quarter. Lang chipped in with seven.
Dale was 12 of 14 from the line for 85.7 percent. Lang went 4 of 5.
“We missed a lot of outside shots but we played well defensively,” Dale coach Eric Smith said.
The Lady Pirates, ranked No. 1 in 2A and possessor of an 18-1 record, will challenge Elk City at 7 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. Dale and Elk City haven’t met this season.
Class 2A third-ranked Dale walloped OCS 52-22 as eight Pirates scored, headed by freshman Trae Thompson with 12 points and sophomore Dallen Forsythe with 10.
Dale, 15-4, was never pressed after erupting for a 20-7 lead after one quarter.
The Pirates were 8 of 11 from the line. OCS was 0 of 6.
“We were up 47-15 after three quarters and subbed everyone after that,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said.
Dale will go up against Perry at 8:30 Saturday in the finals.
