STROUD - Chandler continued its very deliberate game plan Saturday in the Route 66 Conference Tournament finals against Prague.
After picking up a 26-23 win over Okemah in overtime during the semifinals, Chandler controlled the pace of play against the Lady Red Devils in the championship game. Prague wasn't able to control the pace, but they did get the win as the Lady Red Devils beat the Lady Lions 33-20 to win their third straight conference tournament title.
Prague had beaten Chandler 46-44 earlier this month.
Saturday's game was different. The two teams were tied at 4-4 after one period. Chandler owned an 8-7 lead before Prague reeled off six straight points to take a 13-9 lead at the half.
Taylor Hodges got things going in the second half with a traditional three-point play. Leah Brannon broke the Lady Lions' scoring drought that included several shots rolling off the rim and even missed free throws. Hodges and Jaycee Johnson each hit threes for Prague to extend the lead to 22-13 after three quarters
Brannon scored to cut the lead in the fourth before Diana Manning and Johnson each scored from long range to extend the Prague lead to 30-16.
The teams traded baskets late to reach the final score of 33-20.
Hodges led all scorers with 11 points and Manning added 9. Johnson had 6 and Chloe McClendon added 5. Caya Wright wrapped up the Prague scoring with two.
Brannon led Chandler with 8.
Chandler fell to 11-8 on the year. They host Meeker Tuesday. The Lady Lions beat Meeker 41-21 last week in the first round of the tournament.
Prague, No. 14 in 3A, improved to 14-4 on the year. They head back to the Route 66 Coliseum Tuesday night to face Stroud.
