SHAWNEE – The Asher Indians have done it again.
For the second time this season, Asher beat two ranked teams in back-to-back games to win a tournament championship.
This time around, the Indians beat Class A No. 14 Davenport in the semifinals of the Pottawatomie County Tournament and turned around to upset 2A No. 14 Allen 46-42 Saturday night in the finals.
Allen led 14-8 after the first quarter.
Then Patch Hamilton and Mike McDonald went to work. Hamilton accounted for seven points and McDonald canned one three-pointer.
At intermission, the Indians led 20-18.
Hamilton continued to get to the free-throw line in the third quarter, knocking down all four of his attempts. He scored nine points in the third frame to lead the Indians. The junior tallied 23 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.
McDonald led Asher with six points in the fourth quarter to keep Asher in front. McDonald finished with nine points and made 6-of-9 at the charity stripe.
Trevor Martin added 10 points in the win.
Asher (14-8) will return to action Jan. 29 when they host Macomb.
