Early Monday, Shawnee police released updates on the fatal crash that occurred Saturday at 45th and Aydelotte streets, with the spokeswoman reporting there are now two confirmed fatalities from that two-vehicle accident.

Shawnee Police Cpl. Vivian Lozano-Stafford, who confirmed one fatality from the crash Saturday evening, reported Monday morning that the state medical examiner has now confirmed two deaths from that accident, which occurred about 5:11 p.m.

She identified the decedents as Logan Deardorff, 18, and a teenage juvenile passenger whose name was not released. Both were occupants of a Ford Mustang, she said.

The other vehicle involved the crash was a Honda Accord. That driver's name was not yet being released Monday, Lozano-Stafford said, adding that person's updated medical condition was unknown.

The cause of what happened in the accident remains under investigation by Shawnee police, so Lozano-Stafford had no other details to release at this time other to say both vehicles were eastbound on 45th Street at the time of the crash.

While police didn't release the name of the juvenile passenger who died, the Tecumseh community is planning a vigil Monday evening to remember two Tecumseh High School students killed in the accident.

According to the THS Facebook page, a 6 p.m. vigil at the Alumni building is set to remember Deardorff and Shelby Johnson.

"It is with heavy hearts that we report the loss of two very loved THS students in a tragic automobile accident on Saturday, January 26th," the post reads. "Our hearts go out to the Deardorff and Johnson families..."

The district, which asks everyone to please keep the students, faculty, and staff in their prayers, planned to have extra counselors on hand today for those in need.

"One thing is certain, we will come together as a family, as we always do. That is the blessing of a small town," the post concluded.

Watch for updates.
