OKLAHOMA CITY — Maddie Degraffenreid canned two free throws with :22 to play Tuesday night, allowing Class 2A top-ranked Dale to squeeze past Class 3A Christian Heritage 60-58.

CHA turned the ball over twice after Degraffenreid’s charity tosses.

Sophomore Elaine Witt headed Dale’s scoring with 20, including two 3-point field goals.

Degraffenreid knocked down two 3-pointers and also went 4 of 4 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter as Dale outscored the hosts 18-13. She finished with 13 points.

Dale finished with 10 treys as Danyn Lang had two. Christian Heritage hit six treys.

The Lady Pirates, 20-1, were 8 of 8 from the line as Witt and Brenlee Sheppard were both 2 of 2. Sheppard had 11 points.

“It was a fantastic win,” Dale coach Eric Smith said. “It was back and forth with a state tournament atmosphere.”

Boys

Christian Heritage ran its season record against Dale to 2-0 by virtue of a 56-50 victory.

Dale trailed 49-38 entering the final quarter but outscored the hosts 12-7 to finish the game.

Logan Woodruff of Dale chalked up 14 points, seven coming in the opening half. Trae Thompson and Brady Johnson recorded 10 apiece.

Dale (16-6) went 4 of 4 from the line as Woodruff and Gabe Gouge hit two apiece.

Woodruff tallied seven points in the first half.

“CHA is a really tough team,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “They shoot the ball well. We played very hard and never quit. I am very proud of them.”

Dale will play at Vanoss Tuesday.
