BETHEL ACRES—Royal rumble. The Bethel Wildcats and Community Christian Royals put on a show for the Senior night crowd and the visitors emerged with a 71-63 double overtime win. This came after the Bethel Lady Wildcats smashed the Lady Royals 58-19.

In the thriller, Bethel held a 52-49 lead with :37 left to play in regulation. The three-point lead was their biggest of the second half and got there on a Ryan Depuy bucket. The Royals answered on a Hobie Horn three-pointer with :20 left to tie the score at 52-52. Bethel had a chance to win it, but a held ball ended the threat. CCS never got a shot off at the end of the fourth.

The two teams traded punches in the first overtime, and just like at the end of regulation, the Royals hit a trey with :20 to tie the game up again. This time Heath Abrahamsen hit the three-point dagger. Bethel had a chance, but Depuy’s trey attempt hit iron to send the game into the second overtime.

The Royals took over in the second overtime, outscoring Bethel 13-5 and Abrahamsen was solid at the free throw line, hitting 7-of-8 attempts and finished with a team-high 19 points.

The game was close throughout, and was played at an intense level. The Wildcats held a 12-10 lead after the first quarter, but trailed 26-21 at the half. Leading the Bethel charge was Drae Wood. Wood scored seven first half points, but really turned it up in the second. Wood scored 16 points in the second half and extra time, before fouling out with 1:23 left in the second overtime.

The Royals held a 39-35 lead after the third quarter, setting up the end of game fireworks.

Wood was joined in double figures by Jaylon Gordon and Depuy. Gordon scored 13 points and Depuy finished with 10.

The girls game was decided by the end of the first half. Bethel led 13-5 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 31-12 by the end of the half.

Two reserves played a big role for the Lady Wildcats in the first half. Laney O’Rorke and Kennedy Gregory came off of the bench to provide some scoring punch. Gregory scored nine while O’Rorke chipped in with seven.

O’Rorke finished with a game-high 11 on the night.

The third quarter was a defensive beauty for the Lady Wildcats. They allowed just one bucket in the quarter, holding the Lady Royals to just two points and led 45-14 heading into the fourth.

Bethel had 11 players score in the game. Kirsten Winters joined Gregory with nine points and Keagan Engle netted seven.

Bethel will host Little Axe this Friday night.
